Working on Teams
If you are new to my blog, I must make a small but important clarification: product management is my rational passion, while programming is my visceral one. The former is now my main job, while the latter is a hobby I have had since high school. However, both require method and organization. This is why I have adopted the agile methodology, not only for programming, but also for managing my projects.
This inspired me to create MyGantt, a project management software that I developed over the years based on my own approach to working. I decided to make it available to the public because I thought it could also be useful to other professionals.
Project resources
So far, so good. However, there comes a time when you realize that to add value to a product, you need specific features that are often beyond your expertise.
In my specific case, I needed mathematical and data analysis skills, because I believe in their importance for making the best decisions.
The resource I was looking to add to my project had a well-defined role: a Data Scientist. A key figure capable of managing not only the growing amount of data but, above all, the task of revisiting forecasting and analysis models.
As if on cue, my long-time collaborator Donata Petrelli is a data scientist who works with me in the financial markets. I asked her for advice on a few calculations to include in the program. She agreed to help out of curiosity and friendship. And so she joined the project.
Benefits of Teamwork
Using MyGantt, she also noticed some flaws, which allowed me to fix bugs and significantly improve the product. This is the first benefit gained from introducing a specialized resource.
The other result, which everyone can see, is the reorganization and improvement of the dashboard. The calculations have been checked and improved based on the logic of business analysis. What seems “normal” to a data scientist actually becomes an innovative factor for the product. This increases its value and effectiveness because it allows it to satisfy more and more users.
Now Donata has joined the project, doing calculations and helping with data analysis.
To be honest, I don’t think he can do his job without it 😊
